While Joker Folie à Deux attempts to live up to its predecessor (Joker 2019), it simply falls flat. The film is a musical simply put, but you cannot look past the fact that each song throughout the film feels and is forced into a scene that leaves you confused as to where the song even fits and as to where the story is truly going. Phoenix and Gaga are both good in their ways, but together they’re simply just awful, there isn’t much chemistry between the two on-screen or through any of the songs. Gaga’s voice feels like it was forced to be off-tune to make Phoenix’s remotely tolerable. There are parts of the film that are captivating and will engage you, but then there is the end, arguably the worst ending for a film in the last 10 years. So to conclude, I feel like Joker Folie à Deux is just a big swing and a miss from Todd Phillips.
